André Abt

the story so far

My name is André Abt, I am a musician, webdevelper and general creative mind living in Zurich, Switzerland. Monobasic is my company and the brand that holds my creative output together. If you are interested in any of my work, don’t hesitate to contact me.

1978-2002

I was born in February 1978 in Switzerland. When I was three years old, my parents recognized that my reaction to any kind of music was shaking my baby rattle perfectly in the groove. So they decided to promote my talents and sent me to drum school at the early age of four; one year before I started with the basic music education in the kindergarten. (I was too young to remember, but my parents swear that its true :) I got classical guitar lessons for about 5 years during the school and I played in several local bands from an early age until 2002. When I was eleven yeas old, I got my first computer. It was a Commodore 64 and I started programming Basic. In the nineties, while I was watching MTV, I got into electronic dance music through music videos such as Sven Vath’s “The Harlequin Plays Bells” and the “Chill Out Zone” videos. First I was more fascinated with the visual aspect of the 3D animations and finally I got into the electronic music as well. In the following years, my home-studio grew, along with my production skills and a variety of necessary technical equipment.

In the nineties I also started to teach myself HTML. Later, I worked for the web company "nextage AG". I did different interactive media stuff like websites, advertising CD-ROM's, online Flash Games and so on.

2002-2006

Together with my friend Eric Blade, we got our first Record Deal from the label “Sumsonic Records“ from London, UK in 2002. What a cool start for two guys out of central switzerland! (Actually they fooled us big time and never paid us a cent ain the end, but it was the entry ticket to the global dance scene). I instantly stopped my actual band project and focused 100% on electronic music. Over the next 3 years I produced and released more than 35 singles and remixes on different international dance labels. I remixed Artists like INXS, Greed, Sub6, Haldolium, Thomas Penton and many more. I got a lot of attention from the progressive scene and so I played and toured as a DJ and live act around the world in countries like Brazil, Japan, Belgium, France, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Portugal, Turkey, Greece and more. I travelled a lot and It was an awesome experience.

In that time, I saw more similarities around the world than differences and, having done web projects as a freelancer for different customers (mostly labels and companies around the music scene), decided to focus more on web-development and guitar music.

2006-2008

From the fee of my last gig in Japan I bought an electric guitar in Tokyo and as soon I was back in Switzerland, I instantly started jazz music lessons.
Apart from the dance music productions, I did (and still do) a lot of other audio projects as well, for example:

  • Studio guitarist for the album "Wiiber WG" by the Swiss band "Airbäg" wich made it in the Swiss album and single charts.
  • Sound Design and composing for Theater Kanton Zürich, "norway.today" by Igor Bauersima. Directed by Jürg Schneckenburger.
  • Composer and live musician for Theatergroup "Aeternam", Zwischenbühne Horw
  • Sound Design for Theater Stans - a modern interpretation of Odon van Horvaths "Der jüngste Tag"
  • Score Composing of the "Voléro Theme" opening song for switzerlands number one Volleyball team
  • CD and Vinyl mastering engineer for KumQuat Tunes, Ritmic Records and Sirion Records

In late 2007 I started at the School "ICT Web Professional " which I finished with certification in June 2008. That time I also worked for Novanet Solutions AG (www.novanet-solutions.ch), iMusician Digital AG (www.imusiciandigital.com) and some more customers like David Beer (www.beer-music.ch), Sunrise Communications SA (www.sunrise.ch) and many more.

2009

At the moment I work for Zeitgeist Group AG and as a freelance Web Developer and Designer for different customers. (Checkout the Portfolio)

Apart from that, I study Jazz and contemporary Music at the WIAM Music School in Winterthur and try to push my guitar skills as far as possible.
